have used this workout, or a version of it for years, and it has never failed
me. 

 Your

it out and runs it through its gears for a few laps.  You need to do the same for your
runners. 

 The
idea is to run the athlete through some race pace gears without getting too
much volume or intensity, because they need to feel fresh for their big race

 Hence,
